The Graduate Diploma in Project Management Program
The GDPM is an integrated, cohort based program with a specialization in project management. Students will be immersed in the core theories supporting the specialization before demonstrating their knowledge in an integrative Applied Project. Elective courses will advance their understanding in an area of interest.

* Elective courses will be offered based on student demand and faculty availability. All elective courses may not be offered in every semester/year.
Completion Requirements
The Diploma will be awarded upon successful completion of required coursework including the Applied Project with a minimum of a "C" grade in any course and an overall "C+" GPA for the program.
The program has minimum standards as follows:

*Successful completion of a Graduate Diploma in one year can be affected by course availability and the previous academic and work related experience of the individual candidate.
Admission Requirements

- An acceptable undergraduate or master's degree in business from a recognized university with a minimum "C+" (2.33) grade point average on the most recent 60 credits, or VIU's Graduate Certificate in Business (GCIB) with a minimum "C+" (2.33) grade point average.
Notes on Admission
- Priority admission will be given to graduates from the Graduate Certificate in Business (GCIB) who have a minimum "C+" grade point average.
- Preference will be given to candidates with the above noted admission requirements as well as individuals whose background, and prior work and study indicate preparation for careers in project management.
- Students who meet or exceed the minimum admission requirements may not necessarily be admitted to the program.
Program Regulations
Special regulations once a student has been admitted to the program are as follows:
Applied Project Extension: The program has been designed with the intention that the Applied Project will be started and completed within the one semester, however, there may be situations where extra time is required. Students will have the ability to request a project extension. In no instance shall there be more than two extensions.
Career Opportunities
The GDPM provides a specialization in project management that can lead to the designation of Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and Project Management Professional (PMP). Students can expect to?work?in a variety of project management jobs in?industries?such?as construction, information technology (IT), manufacturing and service.
Vancouver Island’s recent industrial and infrastructural growth facilitates numerous firms in initiating new projects and there is a?great demand?for?qualified?project management professionals?to run these projects successfully. To satisfy these demands the Vancouver Island Chapter of Project Management Institute (PMI) is constantly working with Vancouver Island University (VIU) to produce qualified project management professionals. The Chapter President also expressed their willingness to assist our students?in connecting them with a?company?for their applied project.?
